The Virus of Racism

As the Covid 19 outbreak wrecks havoc across the world, citizens are looking for accountability while in their homes during lockdown. Some are angry, sad and frustrated. Many feel trapped, some are ill and others are relatives of the tragically departed.
And they will point fingers.
Covid 19, or the Coronavirus as it’s generally known is thought to have originated in wet markets in Wuhan, China. The markets, traditional as they are don’t have the best of reputations because of the exotic meats sold there but worst of all are the unhygienic conditions which are alleged to have been the source of the virus.
And the fingers point at China.
The Chinese government was believed to have kept quiet about the outbreak of Covid 19 when it started affecting the country. Medical professionals in China tried to make this public before the virus took their lives. Shortly afterwards, neighbour Taiwan went into lockdown, successfully curtailing Covid 19 through strict measures. The country tried to warn the World Health Organisation but were ignored because, politics.
So East and South East Asians will be targeted everywhere
In Western countries, East and South East Asians pay the price. As Covid 19 has affected the world, the Sinophobia is indiscriminate on who it is dished out by. How East and South East countries have successfully controlled the virus outbreak means nothing. They all are under a category of which race to blame and other countries will not be taking advice from them. The blatant racism towards East and South East Asian communities will even be seen as justified or encouraged as the entire world was affected. What were once increased hate crimes towards black and brown communities have now been passed on to those of a gold skinned hue. The so called model minority.
